Just Like Love

There’s a heart slowly beating
In this chest of mine.
It’s waiting for you to come
Tell me the truth,
Tell me how you really feel.

Chorus:
Do you know the drumming of war?
It’s fast, scary, and absolutely terrifying.
Then again, you get moments,
You can feel like you’re flying—
It’s an adrenaline rush.
Just like love.

I can still remember,
When our eyes first met.
Something stirred inside me
I swear it was kismet;
Pretty sure my soul was ready to speak.

Chorus

Isn’t it funny how
All of these little things
They stick in your head and won’t get out.
The trueness of the situation
Is that, I don’t wanna live without you.

Chorus

So I keep, I keep holding on.
I try to run free,
But you, you’ve got me good and strong.
I’d give up everything
If it meant, one last night

In your arms, by your side.

Train's Comin' In

Bridge:
Train’s comin’ in,
It’s my time, to get on it.
Got my past, in my bag
My dreams in my chest pocket.

Take me away, take me home
Take me to, where I belong.
Sun’s coming up and I’m taking chances
It’s my turn for no backward glances.

Chorus:
Hear that whistle, hear that moan
Got my heart, got my soul.
Faith and freedom keep me strong,
Love is what’s right and wrong.

Take me away, take me home
Take me to, where I belong.
Sinners and saints, they’ve got their places
I’m gonna bet all my aces.

Chorus

Take me away, take me home
Take me to, where I belong.
Heaven and Hell’s had a word with me,
My sanctuary is my humanity.

Chorus

Take me away, take me home
Take me to, where I belong.
Got my ticket in my hand,
It’s my life, my right to stand.

Flash

**Today is Halloween, so in honor of it and considering I'm not doing anything for it, I hunted through my pieces and found this. I wrote it back in October of 2008 for an English related club that I was in, for our Halloween meeting. Enjoy!**

A firefighter shouldn’t be afraid, let alone of flames; flames that devour whatever lies within their paths.  Jarrod is having the nightmare again— the one that keeps him awake at nights, shivering from the cold sweat streaming down his entire body, while his throat constricts.
Charlotte’s at home, still out of work for the month.  Jarrod has been off at work, making little money.  When he finally gets home, searing heat emanates from the walls of the second-floor apartment.  The key won’t go into the lock, and the door won’t open when he tries to bang it down.  Flickering orange and yellow flames lick the seams, as he proceeds to ram himself continually into the hardwood.  Cracks in the wood begin to form, and then expand . . . finally, the entrance way breaks open.
Running in, Jarrod is surrounded by flames all around.  In the bedroom on the bed lays Charlotte.  Her hair and clothes are engulfed.  He yells.  He thinks she is already dead.  The love of his life, the love of his barely twenty-eight useless years, he believes is lying there dead slowly being cremated.
The young man rushes to the bedside, trying to find something near by which he can use to douse the flames out.  The only liquid substances he can see all contain flammable elements.  There is no use in smothering the fire, for the bed is burning.  All materialist substances that could be used to put out a fire within the room are burning.  Burning.  Charlotte’s face is burning.  Burning, the flesh on her face melting.  Melting, becoming molten.  It was sickening to watch, he had to do something.  Then . . . .
Her eyes snapped open.  They locked on his.  He couldn’t look away.  Staring into those death-taken eyes, he was held in a trance, unable to move.  This cannot be happening; she can’t still be living, he thinks.  Not possible.  But it’s happening.
Her charcoaled mouth spreads into a black hole; a rasping sound protrudes in an echo of her voice.  “Jarrod, Jarrod . . . come with me, do not let me pass into Hell’s void alone.  Come with me.  Jarrod . . . .”  He could not escape such an infernal gaze.  “Love me . . . eternally.”
He leaned in, and kissed her dripping, liquefying lips.  Faster than one would imagine, and with more strength than a crisped, dying girl should have, she grabbed him, pulling him closer to her decaying body.  Soon, her flesh cemented to his, making them one.  As she uttered her last, her body convulsed and her fingernails dug into his back and drove bleeding stripes into the skin.  Jarrod screamed while Satan’s flames caressed his ten flowing furrows, and Charlotte’s body went limp.
            This is no nightmare.
            This is Hades’ perpetual damnation.

Excerpt from Pieces of Jade: Jade's Vows

From the moment you entered my life, it felt like I had finally begun to live.  You’ve given me hope, belief, and faith that there is something bigger than just breathing and living minute by minute.  You’ve helped me to learn what is inside my soul, as well as opened my eyes as to why I am here on earth.  It is love.  There are not enough words or time in a single moment, to explain the extent of how much you matter to me.  You have enveloped so much of my heart, that if you were to disappear, the world would fade to a dismal atmosphere and music would fall on deaf ears.
Today and for always, I make these promises to you.  I shall remain honest, loyal, and true.  You will always have me as your friend and you will never be completely alone.  I will be your confidant, the one by your side, the one to see you through the dark and celebrate the beautiful.  I will take care of you, even when you don’t want it; I won’t give up on you.  You have my heart, my soul—and a love like ours, it can’t ever be eradicated.

Lightning

A memory slips in.
My heart skips a beat.
I don’t know what to feel,
What to think.
My body shudders.
The earth turns on its axis.
Another year comes
And is gone.
Look to the night sky
As lightning strikes—
Remembering your soft lips
As we stood on the porch steps.

For months, after you left
I built walls, like yours.
I numbed myself when it came to men;
No one could get in.
Then one summer night,
I stood alone on a balcony,
My head tilted upward as I stared
At the stars up high.
A cool breeze brushed against my arms
As I slipped off my shoes, my feet bare,
I felt as my arms hung limply by my sides,
As the walls deteriorated
And all that was left,
Was the spirit, the essence,
The memory of my heartache—
That of me and you.
My breath was caught in my throat
As far in the distance,
Heat lightning flashed and fireworks exploded.
Imaginary arms wrapped themselves around me,
And in that moment,
Not only did I miss you,
I knew it was time to stop hiding—
Time to move on, move forward.
My heart couldn’t take it,
Someone driven by love and here on earth because of it,
Should not fear it.

Yes, you broke me.
It was like somehow the diamond in the rough,
Was ground to dust—
I was choking on it.
Tears flow freely,
Your name is a sting to my flesh.
The sight of you causes all my senses to crash.
As friends shake me, ask if I’m okay
But I’m just gone from this plane—
It’s a temporary escape.
One day, I shall face.
My prayer is to walk up to you,
I’ll smile—
For I was the angel you needed,
And nothing should be forgotten,
But from the depths of what is me,
I erase my pride.
All is forgiven.
My love for you, I’m sure will continue on,
Though the love for myself has grown.
And as I mark the end to my first twenty years,
I know now that life goes on
And there are chapters after Gursslin.
Peace for me; it does exist.
I can have happiness, and contentment once again,
No matter how fleeting,
It is there.

I hope you are well.
I send kisses on the beams of white light.
You’re welcome to enter my life again,
I’ll welcome you with open arms,
But leave the walls and veil,
At our history’s door.
I do not know what lies in store,
I just want you to know—
I’m doing alright on my own.

Look to the sky, when night falls
Think of me, the warmth of my hand
The friendship that shall always exist.
You are not alone, out there in the world,
I still care, you’ve got someone on your side.
Romantic entanglement—maybe it’s not for us,
Just follow your heart,
Let your spirit whisper—
Don’t tell it to hush like you used to.

True love happens when lightning strikes.
