Pretender

He was my friend
Blond hair, baby blues;
He was like a brother
Until one day my heart changed,
And it skipped a beat.

Chorus
And then we had one night
Where we had a little fun,
In the front of his Chevy truck;
And I was so excited,
But he crushed my hopes right after.
What a pretender,
That boy didn’t know what he wanted;
Such a pretender.

Took me to a bonfire,
Almost carried me to be near the flames;
I couldn’t walk,
My feet were quarter-sized blisters,
Thought that he would never change.

Chorus

Now he only calls
When he needs some help
I’m the only one who will listen
To his drunken wreckage,
Some man he turned out to be.

Chorus

Chorus

What a pretender,
Such a pretender.
