Clouds

Am I perhaps the sun-setting skies?
The ones with puffs of clouds, pink and purple hues shading into grays?
Softness and pain all rolling ahead, surrounding our hearts
Our minds filled with fogs, knowing we wish and we need,
To get through the dark because on the other side
There is nothing but freedom and no more lines,
Because all the boundaries lay here on earth.
Not in the heavens where our souls long to twine
Our feelings the different stars reaching--reaching out to touch,
Not just physically, but the way we were
Intimate with something more
The way we have an inkling that we're supposed to be someday,
But instead all that we have are walls,
Because we fear.
Neither of us wants to lose.
Neither of us can lose,
Because we don't want there to be an ending between our two hearts,
Unless it's where one stops beating
And the other stops breathing.

I Wish I Could Say

There's so much that goes unsaid. Years and minutes, truths untold.
Said with the eyes, and thumbs that graze buttons but never type.
Hearts that ache, lips that sigh. Secrets held tight within the soul.
Hands clenched tight, bated breaths which linger.
My tongue halts behind the gates of closed teeth,
Wishing for the wants and truths to be seen.
Instead, I move forward, feelings behind closed screens.

No More Promises

Stop making me promises;
You used to be a keeper.
Stop making me promises,
All you’re keeping are excuses.

You kissed me,
That’s how they used to seal the deal.
You kissed me,
A possible future bloomed before us.

Time has been given
To our two hearts.
Time has been spent,
Complications and cracks are the only result.

Stop the promises,
I know you mean well.
Stop the promises,
Because I can’t wait for them to be held.

Friday Nights

It was homecoming weekend
You came for a visit
It was my freshmen year of college
And you kept your promise, from long ago
And kissed me for our first time…

Chorus:
And Friday nights were our special nights—
When we’d share our secrets
Open our hearts and the walls fell down
And you took me away just by being…

It was two in the morning,
My friends and I were driving the back roads
To Pennsylvania and back;
And you took me in to spend some time
And held me all through ‘til the next day…

Chorus

It was hot in the beginning of August,
You picked me up and we went to your place
You told me you loved me
And I loved you back;
And that night I gave you the rest of my innocence…

Chorus

Chorus

On Friday nights.
